My tribute to
Jennie and Lester Walton

In 1972 at the invitation of my one and only acquaintance in Bend, Oregon, I was taken to visit some 'Horse People'. Little did I know that meeting Jennie and Lester Walton would change my life forever -- and I might add, for the good.

The last picture ever taken of Jennie, shown with her mare, Baskeena

Everyones first visit to the Waltons was an event. Gracious and proud of their horses, Jennie and Lester were humble hosts. My visit was during their hayday with SuHaila, Llana, Fateena, Saerra, El Markab (Buster), Gask. One after the other these drop dead gorgeous Arabians were presented with little fanfare. This one was National Champion Western Pleasure, this one was Canadian National Top Ten, this one....it went on and on. The trophy room was a lesson in silence. What could you say? Soon to come were Llabaska, Llaila-B, Maleka-B, MiSaska, Baskeena, Juda, Precious Baska and Star of Ofir.

A few years later a bay colt was born. Jennie was on watch that night, and as she told me later, got tired of waiting for the 'event'. She walked down to the house, had some dinner, and a while later remembered her duty. Off she went to the barn, and there in all his glory stood Bey Shah. Jennie's first words were 'Oh shucks, it's a colt!'

As Bey Shah grew in stature and spunk, the Waltons set about the task of showing him. No easy chore - you can ask anybody! His charisma was overpowering along with his attitude. More about Bey Shah later.....
