My tribute to
Jennie and Lester Walton - page 2

The Waltons had enjoyed a number of careers over the years. Lester had always been an astute business man and Jennie a very knowledgeable and sharp business person and accountant. Jennie graduated from Oregon State University in accounting back when a woman couldn't get a job in that field. She could add up a four page, 6 figure column in nothing flat, using her brain and a pencil to keep track of where she was. And she was ALWAYS right! In her later years I spent time helping her with her accounting and bookkeeping and always took along my trusty 10-key. She put me to the test on one occasion after coming up with a total on a series of pages. OK, sure I said, I'll check your work.....and I came up with a different total. She was very disturbed, and grabbed back the pencil and re-added. Nope, that's the total she said, and with that I whipped out my adding machine tape and set forth to prove her wrong. About a third of the way down the tape my error was glaring at me! She just smiled.

Lester was known in some circles has a grump. He was always nice to me and the three of us enjoyed many horse show trips, living room visits looking at a panorama of the Cascade Mountains and the highly sought after, afternoon drink! Just one, mind you! He had great stories of Woody Madson and Ga'zi, Mary and Lloyd Silva breeders of Bay Abi, the LaCroix family and *Bask. The Waltons knew everybody in the Arabian horse business - bar none!
